I know your list of responsibilities is a mile long. And, I know a lot of that list is made up of being there for everyone.
You are trying to be everyone’s shoulder to cry on and their escape when they’re stressed. You are trying to be the voice of reason and the comic relief, the rational one, the rock, and the positive thinker with all the solutions.
You always come to everyone’s rescue with no reservations. I know that you are always willing to do all of these things because you are a helper.
You want to do everything in your power to be there for the people you love.
But, somewhere along the way, you gave away too much of yourself. You stretched yourself too thin to the point where you’re not taking care of yourself anymore. You’re feeling sick and run-down and overwhelmed.
And, even though I know it’s not in your nature, this is your body’s way of telling you that you need to slow down. You need to realize that burning the candle at both ends isn’t always the right thing to do.
Sometimes, you have to say no. Sometimes, you need to evaluate your own well-being, both physically and emotionally.
Stepping back to reflect on your emotions and your needs is not selfish.
It’s necessary to recharge and to keep being the superwoman you are. And, while you’re at it, you need to cut yourself some slack.
Because even though you’ll always try to go above and beyond for the people in your life, you’re only human. You can’t be all things to all people.
I know that’s not going to stop you from trying, and that’s what makes you a beautiful soul. But, just remember that the next time you’re being hard on yourself for something.
So, if you’re reading this, l need you to take a moment and step back. I need you to take some time and do something for yourself.
Get some sleep. Work toward a personal goal. Go pamper yourself a little bit.
Because you deserve the love and care that you’re giving to everyone else too. Your mental health. Your physical health. It is just as important that you watch after that too.
You know how they always tell you on the airplane to put your own oxygen mask on before you help others? That’s what you need to do right now. Put on your own oxygen mask and give yourself a moment to breathe.
Give yourself some time to re-center.
You don’t have to stop fighting for others. You just have to remember to fight for yourself too.
