I know that you’re hurting. Even on the days where you could deceive the world with a sweet smile, I know that you’re fighting a daily internal battle and it’s taking every last ounce of energy.
I know that there are days where you feel like hiding from it all or running away. I know that while the rest of the world is moving forward, you feel stuck in one painful and isolated place.
I know that you don’t remember the last time that you felt like yourself.
Your social interactions have become strained. You feel like you’re just going through the motions of the every-day routine. I know that it feels like you are a spectator in your own life: that you are on the outside looking in.
I know that you’ve felt your fair-weather friends pull away from you. And your heart is broken two-fold for all the false expectations of the friends you thought were always going to be there.
You’ve been let down. You feel like people gave up on you and that you weren’t worth the trouble.
I know that you feel embarrassed that you’re struggling and scared to ask for help. You are the kind of person that puts the world on their shoulders.
You are always the master of your own fate, but you can’t be this time.
And, I know how much that rattles you because you have always fought for control.
I know that you feel like you’re alone in the darkness with no way out. People always tell you that things will get better, and it scares you because you don’t feel like they will.
You are trying, but I know that you feel trapped in a gloom that no one else sees.
But, in case you don’t know….
I am here while you’re hurting. I may not be able to fully relate to your pain, but I will hold your hand and walk with you through the darkness.
I will be the person that you can take your mask down in front of and vent to.
I am here while you find your way back to your “old” self. I know that you feel lost, but I have no trouble finding the girl you’ve always been.
She is still there, and she is still fighting.
And while you may not feel like she’s there anymore, I still see a glimmer of her all the time, and I see her fighting her way through the pain every day.
I am here on the days when it feels like it won’t get any better. You’ve been told that things will get better, and they aren’t yet. But, that doesn’t mean that they won’t get better.
I will wait with you until you start to feel a sense of normalcy again, no matter how long it takes.
I am here, through the good and the bad, and I will always be here. When we became friends, I didn’t sign up for the highlight reel.
I signed up for the good stuff and the bad stuff. You are not alone in this, and I will weather the storm with you, no matter what.
I am here to remind you that your struggle is not anything to be ashamed of. I see you. I see someone that refuses to stay broken. I see someone rising from the ashes.
I see a person that gives other people who are struggling a reason to hope.
You have helped me through so much, and I promise to do the same for you. When you need to be weak, I will help you be strong.
When you feel lost, I will help you find your way again. Because that is what our friendship has always been about.
